My name is Claire and I am Side-By-Side, Wellbeing & Support. I am based in Llanddewi Velfrey and cover approximately a 15-mile radius from St Clares, but am willing to travel to anywhere in Pembrokeshire or Carmarthenshire on a one-off basis.

I have just over 10 years’ experience in the care sector, 5 as a community carer and nearly 6 with the British Red Cross, supporting people in their homes.

The service I am offering is one I believe this area is crying out for, someone who is willing to come and sit with an older person, talk to them, make them a cup of tea or light lunch and make their bed. I am equally happy taking someone out, just for a drive in the car, to a group or activity or accompany them to an appointment where, if requested, I can make notes to use as a reminder afterwards.

I am also able to offer support to learn how to use a digital tablet or laptop, assistance to use Zoom / Facetime or to complete online shopping and have a great deal of experience supporting people living with dementia, having been a Dementia Champion with the Alzheimer’s Society until recently.

Although I am not offering personal care or medication support, I am able to provide a ‘checking-in’ service for people who have recently come to the end of their care package or been discharged from hospital. This is something that I have been asked for repeatedly in the past by families.

I work with the individual (and their family if appropriate) to create a support experience which is unique to them, offering what the want in the way they want it.

My motto, and the whole ethos of Side-By Side, is a quote which has been attributed to Albert Camus, and reads

“Do not walk behind me, I may not lead.

Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow.

Just walk beside me and be my friend.”
