For many it’s hard to imagine having to get by on very little, and at times nothing at all. For others, this is reality. Many in the United Kingdom today are facing the tough choice between putting money on the meter and putting it in the shopping basket. Do they keep warm, or stay fed?
It’s a sad truth but there are many people who simply cannot afford the ever increasing cost of living. The reason could be any number of things, but one that stands out most prominently is that benefits are being cut, and some people who cannot work are being told they can’t have benefits either.
This is where bodies such as the Food-bank step in. An independent charity, the Trussell Trust seeds food-banks all over the nation to provide care packages for those in need. Ammanford Food-bank is one such seed.
Established in 2013, the Ammanford branch is well rooted in the community and has been able to relieve some of the burden felt by those in need. Although we hand out food packages to those in need, we seek to do more than just food; with the ability to point clients towards many different organisations who provide knowledge and support in a range of areas, such as debt help, home energy bill guidance.
Here in Ammanford we seek to do more than just food, and together, as a community, we will!
