Working to make art the heart of the community

Y Tŷ Celf-The Art House was established in September 2017 in Llanelli and since then has delivered activities and events that facilitate people exploring their own creativity, encourage public engagement in quality arts events and support emerging artists and makers.

Our activities have been disrupted by the Covid pandemic and normally we would aim to provide -
• gathering artists/makers across Llanelli at monthly lunches to build the artistic connections and collaborations
• develop partnerships with WAG Fusion project, Llanelli Art Society, Llanelly House, Llanelli Town Council, Oriel Ffwrnes.
• opportunities to deliver grant funded workshops
• support for artists and makers through providing monthly exhibitions showing the work of local artists, an online gallery to showcase members’ work, with
online advice an support and a context where artists and makers can receive constructive feedback on their work, practice and direction

Between July 2019 and March 2020 we facilitated a collective of artists and makers running a Gallery and Creative Hub in Llanelli town centre but this had to be shut down due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Since November 2020 we have delivered two programmes Covid Recovery Arts and Craft workshops (funded by Arts Council WAles/WAG) to support freelance artists, makers and the local community impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and since these have been delivered online have developed an international reach beyond Wales. Over 120 workshops have been delivered so far.

The residents of Llanelli in general benefit from the work we do, as do local artists and makers. Since June 2021we have extended this reach to include working young people with mental health issues and ethnic minorities families living in Swansea.
