Retired form My own Gas Company. Gas Services Network Ltd

I have been in the Gas industry for 55 years from apprentice to senior engineer Started with British gas and reaching the peak of my career, with many others thrown out with Maggie Thatcher’s privatisation. Starting my company Gas Services Network ltd in 1996 as local private company in all aspects of gas utilisation domestic and commercial. The company and I won the SME training company of the year UK in 2004 and supported the community with the engineers and apprentice training throughout my career and successful I have now passed that company on to Jason Hughes in Llanelli that carries the company name and Simon Mangan gas services. Now each are successful in their own right. I always like to say thank you to all my 4K of customers and engineers over these years of support.  

SPORT

I have been National coach (Wales) in advanced Kayaking and white-water rescue for 30 years, now retired from that many moons ago, still passionate about getting people into the sport. Part of the team that developed and built the Tryweryn National White Water Centre in Frongoch Bala. Travelled and represented Wales in the first international white water rescue symposium here and in Atlanta and contributed in developing the safety equipment you see today in Red and Yellow on our TV screens during floods.

Today I am a keen photographer (professionally in my industry as well as sport) Today, I help out with a great bunch of people in Trostre camera club. As well as helping anyone with their challenges in this discipline. 

Other sports and roles I have been active in over my years.

Motor Rallying, Gliding and flying, White water rafting, competitive Swimming and surfing, Scuba diving and free diving, Motor sport Marshalling. Supporting my Daughter in Show Jumping and horse events. Supporting My son in Kayak surfing, for which he became world champion.

TODAY

I am proud to be the Town Councillor for the Tyisha ward,

Where I am proactive in changing the Tyisha ward back to where it was once was, a thriving community for families and small businesses.

I sit on several committees in this duty and this year had the honour of being asked to be deputy Mayor to Chris Griffiths. I am honoured to help the town Council in this role.

One of the most important Challenges in my life is, and one I have been 100% in attendance is:-  The Carmarthenshire County Councils Tyisha Community Steering group. The Plaid Administration has worked on the regeneration plan for Tyisha for over 6 years now Initiated by Jeff Owen and Winston lemon when they were councillors during last term. Seeing my ward suffer 40 years of decline with the previous administration, there is a chance now with this drive and with this PLAID administration, it's just been successfully awarded £9.3 million for this project. I am keen to see this major transformation through in all manners and ways to clean up our ward of Tyisha. The Council officers and partners are a brilliant bunch of people, dedicated to see this through with many other investments in our town. A breath of fresh air at last for this town.

Social and recreation

TOURING

I love to get away in our caravan touring. (when we can) and West Wales is usually our haunt for beauty and friendship. Unable to travel distances now due to commitment with family and friends and Councillor work Sue and I love this retirement in having time and able to put something back.

TROSTRE Camera Club.

I support this club and the people in the town who quite frankly create amazing images and social bonds with exhibitions and competitions. Llanelli Camera club is also a keen active club that support the town.
